Learning and Activities
We promote play as the most appropriate way for children under five to learn.
At Kneehigh Nursery each day is structured with planned learning activities. We have a short-term curriculum plan for each day of the week. The curriculum is designed to be suitable for all the children that attend the nursery. We now also incorporate a free flow system throughout each session, where the children have free access to activities and anything that interests them.
At Kneehigh Nursery we use a key worker system which offers each family support and care from one of our qualified members of staff. The staff member is responsible for encouraging and tracking your child’s development and ensuring you’re kept up to date on their learning journey.
Learning that rewards individuality
At Kneehigh Nursery we have specific aims to prepare your child for school. With all our learning activities we consider knowledge, skills, concepts, ideas and attitudes. With our curriculum we aim to:
- To encourage your child to be polite, considerate, ask questions, be as independent as they can be and be ready to attend school when the time comes.
- To be able to write their own name and more if possible.
- To recognize and hopefully write the numbers up to five.
- To know all the colours and most shapes.
We offer a full range of activities:
- Book corner
- Board games
- Various pre-writing skills
- Role play
- Small world play
- Story time
- Problem solving
- Rhyme time
- Outdoor play
- Using the computer
Your child is catered for at Kneehigh Nursery:
- At morning and afternoon snack time we provide each child with a drink and a selection of fruit and savoury snacks.
- At lunchtime, 12pm – 1pm, a hot meal and drink is provided, or you can provide a packed lunch.
- At teatime, 4.30pm – 5.15pm, the children are provided with a selection of snacks, fruit and a drink.
Interactive learning for your child.

Kneehigh Nursery has affordable prices and a wide choice of sessions
Funded children have 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year. You can spread the hours as you wish, however for any period of childcare requested for both the morning and the afternoon session, in any one day, will be charged at a full day rate. Advice will be given as to the best use of your funding.
These prices include all meals for 1/2 and full day sessions.
Each child has a holiday allowance of 2 weeks per year, from September to September. One week’s notice is required if you wish to use any of your holiday allowance, otherwise there will be a charge. Notification for bookings
When you book your child’s time at Kneehigh it will be for the same sessions each week. However, if you require a more flexible arrangement then speak with Sarah to see if this is possible.
We cannot guarantee a place for your child if it is not booked.
We would appreciate 3 days’ notice in advance for irregular bookings (to organise staffing) however please feel free to ring and check availability.
If your child misses a session due to illness or any other reason you will still be required to pay the full fee unless you contact Kneehigh or Sarah an hour (at the latest) before your child is due at Kneehigh. Kneehigh’s number is
01637 876 293. Sarah’s number is 01637 877 112. If your child starts at 8am please contact before 7:30am. If we are notified about your child not attending, a 10% reduction on fees due will be made.
Children in receipt of funding will have this for 38 weeks of the year. During unfunded periods your child will be expected to attend Kneehigh for the same amount of sessions that they were attending before receiving funding each week. Alternatively you can use some of their holiday allowance or pay a reduced fee to keep their place, otherwise you will have to re-enrol (unless you have stated that they will only attend in term time only.) If you choose to re-enrol and there is a waiting list, you will have to join the waiting list.
Kneehigh requires at least 2 weeks’ notice if you wish to withdraw your child from any session you have booked as a regular.
